EntertainmentShazam! Fury of the Gods Bombs at Box Office The movie continues the story of Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word "SHAZAM!" is transformed into a Super Hero. Published 1 year ago on April 4, 2023 (full fact-check in progress).By Lucille McNamara Share Tweet Based on the DC Comics character, Shazam is produced by New Line Cinema, DC Studios, and the Safran Company and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It’s safe to say that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a box office damp squib. The sequel’s $30 million takings for the opening weekend are a dismal performance for a PG-13 superhero movie in the DC or Marvel universes and well below the $53.5 million grossed at the opening weekend of the first film in the series.A stellar cast fails to save the sequel. The lineup includes Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Grace Caroline Currey, Jack Dylan Grazer, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, and Helen Mirren.By contrast, the original Shazam! opened to good reviews and grossed $366 million globally. While that figure may not be astounding by superhero standards, it was good enough to warrant a sequel. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, on the other hand, looks set to underperform its frontrunner on all counts.
