The incident occurred during an intense scene involving his on-screen mother, Patti LuPone. Phoenix was not actively involved in the scene at the time.The Midsommar director said the scene was intense for Patti and he was annoyed by the in-frame collapse because it would have been a good take. Apparently when Aster went to investigate, he realized that the fall was serious because Phoenix was letting people touch and tend to him.The director said it was ‘poetic’ that Phoenix fainted during someone else’s scene.He told of the incident at the screening and Q&A of what people believed would be a rerun of Aster’s acclaimed horror movie, Midsommar, with British actress Florence Pugh in the lead role.Beau Is Afraid will open in cinemas in the United States next month and revolves around a paranoid man trying to get home to his mother.Phoenix is currently filming alongside Lady Gaga in a sequel to the 2024 hit movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, reprising the title role as a tortured wannabe comedian. Lady Gaga plays the Joker’s love interest.
